NEW!! Cabin Building & Bluegrass Music DVD
Join the Hartley family as they build a cabin together! This video includes footage and instructions from the planning stages through the entire post and beam construction of a 26x16 foot building, along with music (new songs written by Anna Hartley as well as old favorites) and interviews with each member of the family. (Don’t miss seven-year-old Micah’s demonstration of his muscles!) Learn how to make Tom’s “poor man’s sawmill,” which allows you to efficiently make straight-edged timbers from whole logs using a chainsaw; learn how to plan your building; and get tips on the whole process, from laying the foundation to building rustic furniture for your finished cabin. You’ll enjoy this video whether you are considering building your own cabin or simply want a fun-filled, informative hour of entertainment.
Songs include: “Muleskinner Blues;” “Back There All the Time,” (Anna’s new song about a woman with Alzheimer’s disease); “Maiden’s Prayer;” “I Surrender All;” “Reuben;” “Oh, Susanna;” and more.

Recommended resources to help you as you build your own cabin:
1. Back to Basics, published by Reader’s Digest.
2. Building the Timber Frame House, by Tedd Benson & James Gruber
3. Timber Frame Construction, by Jack Sobon
4. Building with Logs, by Allen Mackie (and any other books by him, especially on making joints.)
(There are many others available, but these were among the most helpful to us.)
The Hartley Family’s latest CD, A Million Things, took about 5 months to produce. It was mixed by Anna and Josiah Hartley and mastered by Eric Uglum of New Wine Sound Studio in southern California. (You may have heard his work on Ron Block or Sierra Hull’s recordings.)
Song List:
1. A MILLION THINGS (Anna wrote this one about the bond between a parent and child.)
2. MY BURIAL WON’T BE MY END (Gospel song written by Anna.)
3. GOSPEL PLOW (Sung by Tom.)
4. JESSE (Anna wrote this song and Abby sings it.)
5. JOHN TAYLOR (This one’s about a West Virginian whose family’s farm became a coal mine.)
6. CATHY PRAYED (A true story about a woman who never gave up praying for her husband.)
7. SET ME FREE (Another gospel song written by Anna.)
8. WERE YOU THERE (Abby sings this haunting traditional gospel song.)
9. DON’T GIVE UP (This song is meant to be an encouragement that things will get better--God
    has everything under control.)
10. KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNING (Anna wrote this, but it sounds like old bluegrass.)
11. IN THE EYE OF THE STORM (“His love holds you close/In the eye of the storm.”)
12. OH, SUSANNA (Micah sings this “bonus track.”)
